About Us

Meet Helen
Founder of Lila Yoga

As a former school leader, our founder Helen has learned a thing or two along the way about regulating her own body, emotions and behaviour through some tricky situations! She credits Yoga for maintaining her good health and wellbeing throughout her 13 year career in Education and is passionate about sharing the fundamentals of these principles with people of all ages and abilities.

“I believe now, more than ever, children's emotional health and wellbeing need to come first. Through Lila Yoga, I aim to provide sessions which support them in developing the healthy habits, self-awareness, compassion and mindfulness required to grow into healthy adults, equipped with the tools to lead fulfilled and happy lives. Having studied Creative Expressive Therapies, I also highly value the importance of play in children’s development and ensure my sessions always provide a space to be playful and have lots of fun!”

In fact, the name Lila Yoga is taken from the Sanskrit term ‘Lila’ which means ‘Divine Play’.

The majority of Helen’s career has been spent working in SEND schools and she is particularly passionate about the positive impact of yoga and mindfulness for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. All of her classes are inclusive and are tailored in response to the needs of the participants who attend. Lila Yoga also provide specific Special Yoga classes and 1:1 sessions for people with SEND as well as their families.

“All children deserve to experience peace, joy and fulfilment of their potential and purpose. Through the practise of Special Yoga we want children to thrive. We want them to gain strength and balance in every way, to find peace in their hearts and fulfil what they have come into this life and this body to do. The methodology we share at Special Yoga gives them this opportunity. Yoga is a lifelong practice for developing inner peace and calm. Taking the child out of stress and into a relaxed state creates the optimum condition and possibility for positive change."
