Meet Helen
Founder of Lila Yoga

As a former special school leader and teacher, our founder Helen has learned first-hand the importance of regulating her own body, emotions and behaviour, especially in busy and demanding environments. She credits Yoga for maintaining her resilience, good health and wellbeing throughout her career in Education and is passionate about sharing these principles with others of all ages and abilities.

“I believe now, more than ever, we're being called to prioritise our health and wellbeing in a more holistic way. Through Lila Yoga, I aim to provide sessions that support individuals to develop healthy habits, regulation techniques, self-awareness, compassion and mindfulness. Having studied Creative Expressive Therapies, I also highly value the importance of play in children’s development and ensure my sessions provide a nurturing space to be playful!”

In fact, the name Lila Yoga is taken from the Sanskrit term ‘Lila’ which means ‘Divine Play’.

The majority of Helen’s career has been spent teaching in SEND schools and she is particularly passionate about the positive impact of yoga and mindfulness for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. All of her classes are inclusive and are tailored in response to the needs of the participants in attendance. Lila Yoga also provide specific Special Yoga classes and 1:1 sessions for people with SEND as well as their families.

“All children deserve to experience peace, joy and fulfilment of their potential and purpose. Through the practise of Special Yoga we want children to thrive. We want them to gain strength and balance in every way, to find peace in their hearts and fulfil what they have come into this life and this body to do. The methodology we share at Special Yoga gives them this opportunity. Yoga is a lifelong practice for developing inner peace and calm. Taking the child out of stress and into a relaxed state creates the optimum condition and possibility for positive change."
